I want to address one of the most common questions I get from people who are either questioning energy work or have just started practicing:
How can energy work fit in with my religious beliefs?
The interesting thing I’ve seen is that, on the first impression, people think energy work is some dark or evil thing.
But having gone as deep as anyone with energy work I can tell you first hand that there’s no scary stuff.
It is true, however, that some people will have dark sides and can spread it to others. This has nothing to do with the energy itself and everything to do with the pain and confusion inside them.
If you choose to practice energy work, there is no need to give up your religious practice.
It’s more helpful to think about it as adding a new layer to your existing beliefs.
There are 3 “new” things that you will experience as you explore energy work:
1. You become more “yourself”
As you start your journey, you will see that the layers of pain and confusion you experienced before start to strip away. The ideas and perceptions you had about yourself start to disappear and you begin to experience “who you really are.”
You feel kinder and more understanding of the world. You realize that you are capable of much more than you thought and you start liking yourself a whole lot more.
2. You understand the world differently
The world suddenly starts to make more sense. All of us, at some stage, hold on to conflicting beliefs about the world.
Your backgrounds might be in science and religion yet they seem to be in conflict at times. You might be an ardent environmentalist but part of you really loves going out riding jet skis.
Or even though you see yourself as a kind person, you’re actually judgemental about a specific group or specific actions. This is normal. As you get better with energy work, you start stripping away some of the beliefs that aren’t yours.
The fun thing that happens is you start organizing your beliefs around your personal experiences. It’s as if puzzle pieces start snapping together. All of a sudden everything fits together and makes sense.
The confusion you used to have around conflicting beliefs begins to fade away as you start to realize that your beliefs were always consistent but you were adding these extra layers that weren’t really yours. The world feels like an easier place to live in.
3. You start getting on better with others
You start feeling the deeper story behind your own actions but especially in the actions of others.
Instead of seeing peoples’ actions and thinking they’re a bad person because of them, you start noticing that that action is probably arising from some pain or confusion and maybe you want to reach out and help that person. Intuition and energy really help with this because you get to those deeper layers.
It’s a fascinating experience because you develop a deep compassion for peoples’ experiences.
We can fool ourselves very easily
People often ask me: if I get into intuition or energy work, is someone going to brainwash me and make me follow a path I don’t actually want to go down?
The truth here is that we can fool ourselves very easily. We can get stuck on a particular teaching or idea that’s not true and go deep down a path very easily.
To make sure we stay vigilant instead of gullible, it’s important to base your beliefs on your experiences instead of the word and ideas of others. Take suggestions by all means, but you absolutely must base them in personal experience, otherwise you could end up off-course.
I like the idea of “brainwashing” though. If there’s less programming from others and you wash out all that old pain and the old beliefs that don’t make sense you will feel a lot better. You clear out a lot of the conflict you have in your life and feel better about the world and other people.
Some closing thoughts:
In general, if you do the exercises, practice listening to your intuition, and follow the guidance that resonates with you, you can’t go wrong with energy work.
There’s no need to worry because you can throw away the parts that you don’t like and keep the parts you do like. You will find that it’s not scary at all but actually empowering, exciting, and fun.
